Day 6 – Lukla

We came to Lukla airfield watching the helicopter land moving along the single airstrip into position. We were all ushered to the arrival area as they unloaded our bags. The experience was surreal, we had made it to Lukla, the start of our trek to Everest Base Camp. A journey of a lifetime and it was actually happening!

When the second helicopter arrived, we were pleased Prakash was with them. We were introduced to our porters and guides then off to freshen up and have lunch at the restaurant.

Finally in the mountains ready for some serious walking. We could see walkers who had just finished their treks, shop sellers sitting around waiting for customers and trekkers waiting for a flight out from Lukla to go home.

We walked to the restaurant, did our Zohr prayers and waited for the food to arrive. We met an Australian father and son who had just completed Everest Base Camp, they were also stuck in Lukla trying to get a flight out.

At the restaurant we realised Corrin was missing, she had gone to the toilet and no one had waited for her to finish. One of the guides located Corrin and brought her to the restaurant, she had been looking in nearly every restaurant in Lukla for us and we all saw the funny side of it!

I was still feeling a little rough, waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. When they did we were all elated; we greeted each other as though we were long-lost friends. It was pretty fantastic, we were all finally here!

As the rest of the group freshened up we did our Asar in the restaurant. We were then on our way to Phakding!
